CREAM PRESENTATION:
Each tube contains:
Sucralfate IP 7% w/w
Metronidazole IP 1% w/w
Lignocaine Hydrochloride IP 4% w/w
Chlorocresol IP 0.1% w/w
The product is combination of three important medicaments showing synergistic action. The product is used to treat painful ulcers. Sucralfate forms a protective layer around the ulcer and prevent from damage leading to rapid healing. Metronidazole is an antibiotic responsible for killing microorganisms and lignocaine is local anesthetic which desensitizes the pain caused by ulcers and provides relief.

Sucralfate:
This drug aids in the healing of duodenal ulcers, relieving painful inflammation by creating a protective mechanical barrier between the lining or skin of the gastrointestinal tract and damaging substances. Sucralfate forms a complex that binds to protein-rich exudate found on the surface of ulcers. It binds to albumin and fibrinogen, preventing blood clot lysis by stomach acid (hydrochloric acid). Sucralfate increases the tissue levels of fibroblast growth factors and epidermal growth factors, leading to an increase in prostaglandins at the gastrointestinal tract lining, which promote the healing of gastrointestinal ulcers. In addition, sucralfate acts to increase levels of growth factors locally, and also causes an increase in prostaglandins which are important in the healing of the mucosa (lining) of the gastrointestinal tract.
Metronidazole:
It is classified as nitroimidazole derivative and shows microbicidal action specifically against some anaerobic bacteria’s and protozoa. It passes inside the cell by simple diffusion where it is activated by reducing nitro group with the help of certain proteins only present in anaerobes producing radical which destroys cell DNA and ultimately leads to cell death.
Lignocaine hydrochloride:
It acts as a local anesthetic that works by blocking the pathway of the pain signals along the nerves. Sodium ions play a significant role in the pain signals reaching to the brain, i.e., the signal propagation and lignocaine blocks the fast voltage-gated Na+ channels that are present in the neuronal cell membrane. This prevents the pain signals from reaching to the brain.
The product is possible safe for most adults. There is no disadvantage associated with the product if taken under the recommended usage however if severe side effects are observed, discontinue the use immediately.
